DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Lola Thompson (Utrecht University/MPIM)\n\nMPI-Obers
eminar\nWe will discuss how Mahler measure and related concepts (e.g.\, Sa
lem numbers) are connected to problems about lengths of geodesics onarithm
etic hyperbolic manifolds. As a result\, by solving problems using tools f
rom analytic number theory\, we are able to answer quantitative questions
in spectral geometry.\nThis talk will build towards two goals: (1) determi
ning the proportion of Salem numbers produced by certain arithmetic hyperb
 olic lattices\; (2) showing that\, on average\, geodesic lengths of non-co
mpact arithmetic hyperbolic orbifolds appear with high multiplicity. This
talk is based on joint work with various subsets of the following co-autho
rs: Mikhail Belolipetsky (IMPA)\, Michelle Chu (U. Minnesota)\, Matilde La
 lín (U. Montréal)\, Plinio G. P. Murillo (U. Federal Fluminense)\, and O
 tto Romero (CIMAC).\n\nhttps://math-events.uni-bonn.de/event/1016/
