DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Berend Jan Ringeling (Université de Montréal)\n\nN
umber theory lunch seminar\nOriginally motivated by a question about the m
inimal Mahler measure among polynomials with a fixed Galois group\, this w
ork led to the computation of several multivariate Mahler measures. These
admit a probabilistic  interpretation in terms of random walks in the pla
ne and\, in some cases\, are also connected to densities of states in cond
ensed matter physics. In this talk\, I will explain how these probabilisti
c interpretations lead both to asymptotic formulas for these Mahler measur
es and to their high-precision numerical computation in certain cases. Thi
s is joint work with Gunther Cornelissen and David Hokken.\n\nhttps://math
