DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Kanami Ueda\, Emma Seggewiss (HCM)\n\n\nNumerical me
thods for partial differential equations play a central role in modern sci
entific computing. While classical finite element methods remain widely us
ed\, handling complex geometries\, coupled systems\, and nonlinear phenome
na often poses challenges for ensuring accuracy\, robustness\, and preserv
ing intrinsic physical properties. This Trimester Program aims to bring to
gether experts working on the design of innovative numerical schemes\, the
ir rigorous mathematical foundations\, and the accurate simulation of real
-world systems.\nThe program begins with a comprehensive one-week introduc
tory school for PhD students and postdocs\, offering a unified overview of
the three main themes. It then features one conference and two thematic w
orkshops\, each focusing on one of the core areas: the design and analysis
of nonstandard  Galerkin methods\, continuous and discrete functional an
alysis tools for such methods\, and advanced discretizations for problems
in geophysics\, engineering\, and the life sciences. The scientific progra
m is complemented by a series of weekly seminars and mini-courses led by p
 articipants.\nLink to Trimester Program website\nScientific Organizers:\n\
nPaola F. Antonietti (Politecnico di Milano)\nJoscha Gedicke (University o
 f Bonn)\nLorenzo Mascotto (University of Milano-Bicocca)\n\nTrimester Prog
ram Events:\nEach week of the Trimester Program includes numerous activiti
es\, such as a seminar series\, lecture series\, reading courses and so on
. In addition\, there are some major events\, one Introductory School\, on
e Conference and two Workshops. The Workshops are aimed at people who are
participants in the Trimester Program at that time. It is not possible to
apply only for these Workshops. The Summer School is aimed at early-career
researchers\, especially PhD students and postdocs. There is a separate a
pplication platform for this event\, which can be found on the School's ev
 ent page.\n\nIntroductory School (September 20 - 24\, 2027)\nConference: "
 Nonstandard Galerkin methods" (October 18 - 22\, 2027)\nWorkshop: "Continu
ous and discrete functional analysis tools for nonstandard Galerkin method
 s" (November 15 - 19\, 2027)\nWorkshop: "Advanced discretization methods w
ith applications to engineering\, geophysics\, and life sciences" (Decembe
 r 13 - 17\, 2027)\n\n\nhttps://math-events.uni-bonn.de/event/1348/
