    MPI-Oberseminar

    Historically, hyperbolic surfaces have been played as drums. During this seminar, we will change the point of view and play them as marimbas: we assign notes to a finite collection of closed geodesics and, following a random geodesic on the surface, we play a note when the corresponding closed curve is hit. We will investigate to what extent the melodies produced determine the hyperbolic surface. We will keep the talk basic, employing most of the time to convince the audience that the question makes sense (and hopefully to hear some melodies). Joint work with Juan Souto.
