DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Ludovico Battista (MPIM)\n\nMPI-Oberseminar\nHistori
cally\, hyperbolic surfaces have been played as drums. During this seminar
\, we will change the point of view and play them as marimbas: we assign n
otes to a finite collection of closed geodesics and\, following a random g
eodesic on the surface\, we play a note when the corresponding closed curv
e is hit. We will investigate to what extent the melodies produced determi
ne the hyperbolic surface. We will keep the talk basic\, employing most of
the time to convince the audience that the question makes sense (and hope
fully to hear some melodies). Joint work with Juan Souto.\n\nhttps://math-
