Description
Groups are often studied through the geometric, dynamical and analytic objects associated with them, such as manifolds, dynamical systems and operator algebras. A natural question is to what extent the structure of the group is reflected in these objects.

I will discuss several results addressing this question in different settings: the growth of torsion in the first homology of higher-rank arithmetic lattices, a new criterion for the dynamical property of fixed price one, and the first examples of non-isomorphic torsion-free groups whose reduced C*-algebras are isomorphic.
