DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Raz Slutsky\n\nGroups are often studied through the 
 geometric\, dynamical and analytic objects associated with them\, such as 
 manifolds\, dynamical systems and operator algebras. A natural question i
 s to what extent the structure of the group is reflected in these objects.
 \n\nI will discuss several results addressing this question in different s
 ettings: the growth of torsion in the first homology of higher-rank arithm
 etic lattices\, a new criterion for the dynamical property of fixed price 
 one\, and the first examples of non-isomorphic torsion-free groups whose r
