DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Andreas Thom (TUD\, Germany)\n\nThe study of equatio
ns in the language of groups has a long history and many applications. I w
ill explain how topological methods can be applied to solve equations over
groups and also mention some recent advances in the study of identities f
or finite and infinite groups. Some positive answers rely on Gromov's noto
rious open problem whether all groups can be approximated by finite permut
ations in a suitable sense. Everything will be motivated and explained sta
 rting with basic concepts.\n\nhttps://math-events.uni-bonn.de/event/288/
