The Atiyah orientation from spin bordism to K-theory has a twisted analogue. We show how it can be used to show that twisted K-theory can be desribed through $D$-brane homology, which by definition is a twisted version of the classical Brown-Douglas approach to $K$-theory. The results we present are joint with Baum, Khorami and Schick respectively.
