 ion of variational models in brittle fracture. Abstract:  In this talk\, 
 I present a linearization result for Griffith functionals of brittle fract
 ure. By means of Gammma-convergence we derive effective linearized functio
 nals in the limit of vanishing strains\, where the resulting free disconti
 nuity problem in linear elasticity is formulated in the space of generaliz
 ed special functions of bounded deformation. We also discuss a result in t
 he evolutionary setting\, namely the convergence of energetic solutions de
 scribing quasistatic crack growth. Finally\, I will address the possibilit
 y of including a non-interpenetration constraint in the nonlinear and line
 arized models. Based on joint works with S. Almi\, E. Davoli\, P. Steinke\
