DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Emma Seggewiss (HCM)\, Kanami Ueda\n\nThe Junior Tri
mester Program is primarily addressed to PhD students\, postdocs and young
assistant professors. Applicants are expected to have completed their PhD
thesis at most 7 years ago. \n\nMany scientific and engineering problems
exhibit a combination of complex interactions over wide ranges of scales
and input data parametrized over high-dimensional parameters spaces.  How
ever\, naive applications of numerical solution techniques to such problem
s are often beyond current computational feasibility. To this end\, multil
evel\, multifidelity\, and multiscale problems have emerged as innovative
approaches which can be applied to a wide range of processes in scientific
and engineering domains. They can enhance simulation-based modeling\, unc
ertainty quantification\, optimization and design\, inverse problems\, and
data assimilation. The Junior Trimester Program aims to foster the develo
pment of a new generation of efficient numerical methods and their numeric
al analysis by cross-fertilizing methods from multifidelity\, multilevel a
nd multiscale techniques. For this\, it will bring together junior researc
hers from the corresponding communities to build new bridges between the d
ifferent methods. \nTrimester Program Events:\nEach week of the Trimester
Program includes numerous activities\, such as a seminar series\, lecture
series\, reading courses and so on. In addition\, there are some major ev
ents\, three workshops and one Winter School. The workshops are aimed at p
eople who are participants in the Trimester Program at that time. It is no
t possible to apply only for these workshops. The Winter School is aimed a
t early-career researchers\, especially PhD students and postdocs. There i
s a separate application platform for this event\, which can be found on t
he School's event page.\n\nIntroductory Winter School "Bridging multiscale
\, limited information\, and low regularity in computational mathematics"
(January 19 to 23)\nWorkshop "Multifidelity Methods for Stochastic and Unc
ertain Problems" (February 2 to 6)\nWorkshop "Optimal approximation spaces
for multiscale problems" (February 23 to 27)\nWorkshop "Taming the PDEs:
Tailored Methods\, Multiscale Approaches\, and Real-World Application" (Ma
rch 9 to 13)\n\nFor the descriptions of each workshop\, please visit the
webpage of this Junior Trimester Program.\n\nhttps://math-events.uni-bonn.
