 eaSANT (Participative Learning Seminar on Any Number Theory)\nThe classica
 l Gauss circle problem concerns estimating the number of lattice points in
 side a Euclidean disc of radius $R$.  Equivalently\, it asks for the aver
 age number of ways to write a positive integer $n<R^2$ as a sum of two squ
 ares.  In this talk\, we discuss various analogous situations in the hype
 rbolic space.  Rather than focusing on the underlying geometric results t
 hemselves\, we treat them as black boxes and concentrate on their arithmet
 ic consequences.  These include results on the distribution of sums of sq
 uares\, norms of ideals in quadratic fields\, and more.\n\nhttps://math-ev
