Pre-Tannakian tensor categories are a natural generalization of representation categories of algebraic groups. I will define a subclass of these categories (the "discrete" ones) that correspond to finite groups. This idea leads one to a construction of pre-Tannakian categories based on certain infinite permutation groups, called oligomorphic groups, equipped with some numerical data. I will explain this, and some of the novel examples it yields. (Joint with Nate Harman.)
