We present a concise overview of both classical and recent results on the variational analysis and concentration phenomena in magnetic lattice models, focusing on the asymptotic behavior as the lattice spacing tends to zero. Connections are drawn with well-established results in the corresponding continuum theories. The discussion includes the classical XY model on the square lattice, where the magnetization takes values in $S^1$, along with several of its variants. We then highlight recent developments in the variational analysis of planar magnetic skyrmion models, in which the magnetization is $S^2$-valued, emphasizing the crucial role played by the topology of the target manifold.
