 oth classical and recent results on the variational analysis and concentra
 tion phenomena in magnetic lattice models\, focusing on the asymptotic beh
 avior as the lattice spacing tends to zero. Connections are drawn with wel
 l-established results in the corresponding continuum theories. The discuss
 ion includes the classical XY model on the square lattice\, where the magn
 etization takes values in $S^1$\, along with several of its variants. We t
 hen highlight recent developments in the variational analysis of planar ma
 gnetic skyrmion models\, in which the magnetization is $S^2$-valued\, emph
 asizing the crucial role played by the topology of the target manifold.\n\
