Description

Did you know that the 19th of November is International Men’s day? This year we want to do the day justice (albeit a bit early) with the event “Equity in Math – an event for men” on Monday the 17th of November starting at 4pm in the Lipschitzsaal.

Men rarely get asked about what they think about current gender equality efforts and what equity in maths could look like when they are also taken into account. This event will thus focus on male perspectives on topics such as mental health, gender equality, the atmosphere in Bonn, and balancing career and family life. But we also want to consider why genuine efforts towards discussing male issues are often overshadowed by misogyny and gender divisiveness and how we can ensure that we work together instead of against each other.

The first part of the event will be a talk by Tamar Grosz, a researcher in gender equality in Physics, who will provide us with data about the current state of gender equality in Germany, with a focus on academia.
For the second part, we have invited Prof. Vygen, Dr. Assing, Dr. Rothgang, Dr. Schubert and Julius Mann to participate in a panel discussion on the topics mentioned above.
Afterwards, we invite you to stick around to chat with other attendees over soft drinks and free cookies.

While the event is especially aimed at male participants, everyone interested is, of course, very welcome to join.
We look forward to seeing you there!
