I will give a couple of examples of modular forms that have interesting connections to number theory and geometry. Such theta series, as they are called, appear in various subjects ranging from mathematical physics to arithmetic hyperbolic manifolds. Nonetheless, this talk will mostly serve as an introduction to this circle of ideas. Time permitting, I will touch on my own work.
