DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Chris Kapulkin (University of Western Ontario)\n\nAb
stract homotopy theory seminar\nCubical sets go way back\; in fact\, they
were the first combinatorial model of spaces studied by Kan (1955-56) befo
re switching to simplicial methods (1957+). In recent years\, cubical meth
ods have seen a renewed interest thanks to their applications to theoretic
al computer science and combinatorics. This talk will be an introduction t
o cubical sets\, highlighting similarities and differences between the cub
ical and simplicial approaches to homotopy theory and higher category theo
