DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Christoph Smoch\n\nIn this talk we are going to inve
 stigate dimension-reduced models for the approximation of elastic deformat
 ions of thin elastic plates. \nAfter a brief discussion of the derivation
  of these two-dimensional models from three-dimensional nonlinear elastici
 ty\, we concentrate on the numerical approximation of nonlinear bending de
 formations. \nThe nature of such problems does not allow for using standa
 rd finite element methods. \nDeformations of thin elastic plates\, like a
  sheet of paper\, become much more flexible\, if the plate is allowed to b
 e folded. We are going to study a model for bending deformations with fold
 s\, and propose a method for the optimization of folds.\n\nhttps://math-ev
