October 18 - 22, 2027 HCM Workshop/Conference
Europe/Berlin timezone

This HIM Conference is a week-long event, which will take place within the framework of the Trimester Program "Nonstandard Discretizations of Partial Differential Equations: from Theory to Applications".

Trimester Program guests, who were invited and have confirmed to be at HIM during the period of this Conference, are eligible to attend this event. Beyond this, researchers from the HCM, in particular, early-career researchers, are welcome upon request.

After being selected as participant, you will be invited to register.

Scientific Organizers:

  • Joscha Gedicke (University of Bonn)
  • Mira Schedensack (Universität Leipzig)

Speakers: TBA

Description:

Since the 1950s, finite element methods have been a fundamental tool in the numerical approximation of partial differential equations. Nonconforming variants, in particular, offer significant advantages in various contexts, such as capturing shocks and discontinuities, managing complex geometries through adaptive mesh refinement and coarsening, ensuring physical conservation, and discretizing nonlinear problems. This conference will feature a wide range of advanced finite element techniques, including Discontinuous Galerkin (DG), Hybrid Discontinuous Galerkin (HDG), Crouzeix–Raviart, Hybrid High-Order (HHO), Virtual Element (VEM), and Trefftz methods, among others.
